Breathwork @ Open House with Sophie Kirkton.

Our breath is the only part of our autonomic nervous system that we can control and the effects are profound. Our breath can intentionally activate, or calm our nervous system, alleviate stress and anxiety, help us sit with uncomfortable emotions and sensations in our bodies and calm our racing minds. It improves our sleep and focus. Improves athletic performance and endurance. It can safely bring us back home into our bodies.

Breath is the foundation of life and in this class you'll connect to the understanding of your own unique breath and channel awareness to your relationship to it.

  • I’m a fully trained breathwork practitioner and cold water therapist, trained in several different modalities of breathwork including trauma informed practices to ensure I am able to hold safe spaces that meet your emotional and physical needs throughout the sessions.

I love spending time outside in nature with my two young children. Our lives revolve around playing outside, swimming, cycling, camping and exploring in the woods, we’re always in a woodland somewhere. I love good food and cooking although I don’t have as much time as I’d like to cook these days.

  • We often forget how important the body is for mental health. The truth is that we don’t think our feelings. We feel them in our bodies. In our throats, our chests, our backs and our limbs. Practices such as breathwork allow us to become truly embodied and to feel again.

Our breath is the only part of our autonomic nervous system that we can control and the effects are profound. When breathwork is done safely, it is gentle, powerful, healing and can transform our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

This breathwork practice is a deep meditative practice that facilitates the release of emotions we may have been holding onto for many years. We often focus only on banishing the anxious thoughts, slowing our racing minds but this can lead to a never-ending cycle of living in our heads with little relief.

When you work with me, we focus on bringing light to our bodies and soothing our nervous system. Through this powerful breathwork we are better able to sit with emotions and physical feelings and expand our awareness and our connections to ourselves. Breathwork is a powerful tool that leaves us lighter and often in a state of bliss and total mind clarity.
