Busy Hands, Calm Minds.
9am-12pm on Thursday, 25th April.
Open House Hathersage invites you to join Debbie in a mindful, creative space of self-care - an opportunity to pause and calm the mind through busying our hands in playful art and mark making.
On one of the cafe tables, sit with a coffee and get your hands busy with art materials. No experience of art is needed, and all materials are supplied. You are welcome to stay for a few minutes or for as long as you like. All you need is to bring an interest in exploring materials, how they feel, and a curiosity to follow where your imaginative hands lead you… any road will take you there. This is also an opportunity to ask Debbie about the practice of art therapy.

Knit Club.

Join us with your knitting needles for a coffee, knit and chat in the Open House Cafe. Whether you are a keen knitter or would like to learn - all is welcome to join and learn from each other.

The humble beginnings of our 'Open Minds' Open Library - a collection of books from home that have changed the way we live, think and feel.
Come browse our bookshelf, read, borrow and exchange. What books have changed you, and what do you want to share with others?

Mindfulness Drop-in.
Alison from Hope Valley Health and Wellbeing uses our community day to host in-person mindfulness drop-in sessions for her community at Open House.
To attend Alison's session, attendees were asked to commit a random act of kindness. And in return, Alison is offering hand massages at Hathersage Luncheon Centre in exchange for the use of the space at Open House. We value this ripple effect of exchange and how it flourishes community.

Hathersage Careline: 20th Anniversary.
Hathersage Careline are run by 17 volunteers who make a daily wellbeing phone call to people in the local community who may be lonely or vulnerable.
This year marked their 20th anniversary on 28th February, and they were looking to celebrate in Hathersage, bringing together past and present volunteers. We were honoured that they chose to celebrate such an important event with us at Open House.

Artist Meetup.
2-3.30pm on Thursday, 14th March.
Are you an artist in the local area and want to meet other creatives? Does the beauty of the local area fill you with a creative lust & you want to be inspired by how other artists are creating?
Join our first artist meet up - bring along a piece of artwork or craft you’ve made or a creative idea to share with the group. Community keeps ideas flowing and our inspirations alive!

Poetry Night.
Hope Valley Poetry Group held its first gathering with us on Tuesday, 13th February.
This is an evening of sharing poetry. A totally informal, supportive group for anyone who is interested.
We hope to meet once a month to chat about poetry and see where that takes us. You may want to read your favourite poem, you may want to share your own, or write your first poem, someone might bring a writing prompt for the rest to write something; anything is possible.

Adventure in the Peaks: Run Meetup.
9.30-11am on Saturday, 2nd March.
Embark on a trailblazing experience with wildsole’s very first Run Meet-Up in the Peak hills! Gather your spirit of adventure, and join us at Open House for a laid-back 10k of running, walking, chatting, connecting and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Join Emmie from Open House as she guides us on one of her favourite trail routes alongside Tom, one of the founders of wildsole sandals.

Local Business Community & Collaboration.
10-11.30am on Thursday, 18th April.
This gathering is an opportunity to connect with local business people, share what you do, and exchange ideas, support and skills amongst the local business community.
Get ready for some great conversations, collaborations, and connections in a welcoming environment. Open House Cafe will be open for coffee and cake!
Knitting Community Together.
Open House Community Scarves.
In the Open House cafe, we are knitting scarves. You'll find half-knitted scarves on the table that you can join onto, knit a few rows or stay for some time and knit a scarf big enough to keep the whole of Hathersage warm. Once made, we will have our scarves hung up in the cafe to put on when feeling chilly in the cafe or to keep warm during your walk home.
Open House Community Blanket.
Let's make a big blanket for us all to go on a picnic together. This project is to knit a community blanket, using patchwork squares in chunky cotton yarn. Grab some needles and give knitting a go! Please don’t worry about the design - this is free flow knitting, with whatever you want to do. Don’t worry about mistakes. Someone might be able to fix it - dropped stitches and the such like. If we can't fix it, it will be beautiful with all its imperfections. If you don't know how to knit already and want to learn, ask a member of the Open House team.
