Pilates with Marjo Karhu.

Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise designed to strengthen muscles while improving posture, flexibility, and balance. It focuses on core engagement and controlled movements. Pilates is great for beginners as well as long-time Pilates lovers.

Marjo’s pilates classes are structured to mobilise, strengthen and stretch the body, whilst improving the connection of the mind and the body. The focus point of the class is to strengthen the core of the body, building heat through low-impact mat work, all whilst encouraging the mind to feel calm.

There will be adaptations and progressions to make the level of each exercise suitable for how your body is feeling that day.

  • Marjo’s Pilates journey started when she was a teenager, when her figure skating coach signed her up for classes to support training on the ice. Although she didn’t start off as the most enthusiastic Pilates student, to her own (and her teacher’s) surprise, once she started to get a grasp of the movements, enjoy the mind-body connection and flow of the practice, Pilates classes turned into one of the highlights of her week. Although she didn’t manage to stay fully injury-free, she believes the consistent Pilates practice helped her recover and go into professional skating.

Marjo wants to share the joy of flow and help people enjoy activities they love through providing tools for free movement and moving confidently, for as long as possible. And to stand a little taller!
