Join the early morning Zen meditation group and cultivate deeper awareness, presence and clarity. Each week we explore the practice of compassion and wisdom within community as we sit two 20 minute periods of meditation and one shorter walking meditation.

At the heart of the session is an exploration of the Lojong (directly translated as ‘mind training’), a series of slogans and phrases that help to transform everyday challenges into opportunities for mindfulness, selflessness and understanding.

Simple, flowing movement meets slowness, awareness and relaxation.

Gently starting with mindful movement to warm up the body and prepare the mind ahead of foundational, flowing sequences combining movement with your breathing. From there we’ll spend a little time in some more energetic movements and positions before slowing down towards finishing with a guided relaxation, the perfect opportunity to relax and restore body and mind.

Discover: Drumming with Matt Laurie.

This course is designed to be a journey, shared by a group of people. There is no need for previous musical experience.

Over the course of five sessions, we will discover our innate musicality through a series of inclusive and accessible group improvisations.

We will explore rhythms from the Samba, Shamanic & West African drumming traditions, taking an approach which prioritises co-creation over cultural appropriation; making music that is inspired and generated by the people in the room.

For young people aged 7-12 with less musical experience.

The youth music sessions at Open House are for any young people who are wanting to get into music and enjoy playing with others.

This session is for young people who are beginning their musical journey.  This session is all about getting excited about music, encountering new instruments and discovering the joy of playing with others. Some basic skills on an instrument will help young people to access the session and, for those without previous musical experience, ukuleles, tin whistles and drums will be available and young people will be able to learn how to play these instruments if they are new to music.

Youth Folk Band: CreativeFolk with Matt Laurie.

For young people aged 12-16 with more musical experience.

The youth music sessions at Open House are for any young people who are wanting to get into music and enjoy playing with others.

This session is for young people who have been playing music for a few years and would like to be creative, play with others and work toward performance.  Instrumental skills are essential to join this group.  The sessions will involve teaching of traditional tunes, creating our own music, learning how to accompany the tunes, harmonisation, improvisation and arranging for performance.  Ukuleles, tin whistles and drums will be available and young people will be able to learn how to play these instruments if they are new to music.
