Heart Open, Spine Long: Unlock the Power and Grace of Your Backbend with Rachel Roy.

Whether you are looking to push up into your very first Wheel Pose (Urdhva Dhanurasana) or you’re an experienced practitioner seeking to refine your alignment and deepen your understanding and body awareness, this workshop is for you.

Backbending is about more than just flexibility; it’s about finding the perfect balance between strength, breath, and trust. In this multi-level intensive, we will deconstruct the mechanics of a healthy backbend.

The session will focus on:

  • Foundation & Stability: Creating a "pinch-free" lower back by engaging the legs and core.

  • Shoulder Mobility: Opening the heart space to create a smooth, even curve throughout the spine.

  • For Beginners: We’ll break down the "building blocks," using props and drills to help you find the lift and confidence to leave the floor safely.

  • For Experienced Yogis: We’ll explore advanced refinements, longer holds, and transitions to take your practice to the next level.

Come prepared to move, breathe, and flip your perspective. Leave feeling spacious, energised, and empowered.

All levels are welcome. Let’s rise together.

    Some words from Rachel:

“I reluctantly first started teaching for Sheffield Hallam University just over a year after qualifying with my Yoga Teacher Training, someone twisted my arm to cover their classes, and honestly I have never looked back since. I am so grateful for that nudge in the most incredibly life changing direction. I have been teaching 1:1 Yoga for 9 years now.

Being a single mum of three girls - Ashtanga Yoga gave me a certain sense of resilience and grounding, establishing structure and order in my life like nothing else and without it, I truly do not know where I would be.”
