Saturday Takeover with John Parsons.


From 21st March, John Parsons will be taking over our kitchen every Saturday with a series of special one-off menus each week. See example menus below.

We will also be serving our regular brunch menu, and our pop-up bar will be open serving beer, wine and more.

  • 13th June - BBQ!

  • 20th June - Thai food - from massaman to papaya salad - all things coconut, lime, chilli and salt.

  • 27th June - Turkish - from Anatolia to Istanbul - doner kebabs, salads, pide and lahmacun.

  • 4th July - Mexican x Korean mash up! Tacos, nachos, and burritos with the spice and flavours of Korea.

  • 11th July - Indo-Pacific Rim - modern European cooking with the spices of the far east.

  • 18th July - World Salads - from Caesar to Niçoise, Waldorf, Caprese and Panzenella.

  • 25th July - Americana - corndogs, hamburgers, ribs n’ wings.

  • The Open House team first met John Parsons when we opened our kitchen a year and a half ago, through our kitchen manager Maria McCaffrey. Maria had worked with John previously at The Sir William, a historic inn in Grindleford, and had only the highest praise for his cooking as a chef there.

    John is local to Hope Valley and has built up a solid reputation and loyal following during his many years as a chef, working in a variety of establishments across Sheffield and North Derbyshire including The Anglers Rest, Sheffield’s Food and Fine Wine, The Beer Engine, The Kitchen on Ecclesall Road, Breedon Cement Works Canteen and The Hathersage Social Club.

    Almost everyone you speak to locally knows of John Parsons and raves about his cooking, and it’s easy to see why - his food is creative and refined but not at all fussy, a mix of French classical with British traditional pub grub, using local ingredients with global flavours and cooking styles.

    We have had the absolute pleasure of partnering with John on several events now, from private suppers and weddings to community feasts, and we are delighted to have him back again in the Open House kitchen for this latest kitchen takeover.
