Ashtanga is a dynamic style of yoga that follows a set series of poses, practised in the same order each time. These poses are linked together through vinyasa—a flowing movement coordinated with the breath—creating a continuous, rhythmic practice.
Rachel creates a setting that helps make ashtanga accessible to all. All that’s needed is a commitment to move mindfully and not throw in the towel after the first hurdle! This class will suit all levels, including beginners who come with patience and curiosity.
Together we will take a slow approach to familiarising ourselves with the Ashtanga Primary standing sequence, with Rachel offering nurturing hands-on adjustments in a relaxed, workshop style environment. Week by week we will work towards flowing through with Ashtanga Vinyasa in a moving meditation, as we learn how to synchronise movement to the breath.
Come with an open mind and playful heart, with the prospect of building strength and slowly increasing flexibility, whilst developing the foundations for home practice. Let’s have some fun together!

Rachel is a devoted Ashtanga Yoga practitioner and teacher, also qualified to teach Hatha, Vinyasa and Children’s Yoga, but Ashtanga Yoga is Rachel’s true passion and favourite style to teach! Rachel is also an attuned Reiki Master and Barefoot Walker.
Some words from Rachel:
“I reluctantly first started teaching for Sheffield Hallam University just over a year after qualifying with my Yoga Teacher Training, someone twisted my arm to cover their classes, and honestly I have never looked back since. I am so grateful for that nudge in the most incredibly life changing direction. I have been teaching 1:1 Yoga for 9 years now.
Being a single mum of three girls - Ashtanga Yoga gave me a certain sense of resilience and grounding, establishing structure and order in my life like nothing else and without it, I truly do not know where I would be.”

Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic, physically demanding style of yoga, focusing on synchronized breath following a specific set sequence of postures (asanas). The ashtanga primary series features Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar), standing/seated poses, and finishing sequences.
Ashtanga yoga is known for being physically challenging, disciplined, and meditative, making it well-suited for those who enjoy a consistent routine and a strong mind–body connection.
