We’re now hiring at Open House!
Come join our team at Open House. We are currently looking for a Front of House Manager & Trainee Chef.
Front of House Manager.
Location: Open House, Hathersage, Hope Valley
Hours: Full-time
Pay: Competitive and dependent on experience
Open House is an independent food, live music and yoga venue in Hathersage, in the Peak District.
We bring people together through great food and coffee, Sunday roasts, pop-up food events, live music and a growing programme of yoga and movement classes.
We’re looking for a Front of House Manager to help bring all of this to life.
-
This is a hands-on role at the heart of Open House. You’ll be responsible for making sure the space feels great, the team works well together and our customers and guests have a brilliant experience.
You’ll lead the front of house team during our regular service, while also helping to deliver our events, food pop-ups and wholebeing programme.
We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality, is good with people and takes pride in creating a welcoming environment. Someone who can lead from the front, stay calm when things get busy and is happy to get stuck in wherever they’re needed.
-
Running the front of house
Lead the front of house team during service.
Make sure the space is ready for opening and properly closed down at the end of the day.
Keep service running smoothly and efficiently.
Make sure customers receive friendly, attentive and thoughtful service.
Keep an eye on the overall atmosphere of the space and step in when something needs attention.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and organisation.
Work closely with the kitchen team to make sure communication between the kitchen and front of house is clear.
Deal confidently and calmly with customer questions, feedback and problems.
Leading the team
Support, motivate and lead the front of house team.
Help create a positive working environment where people enjoy coming to work.
Make sure everyone knows what they’re doing and has the support they need.
Train new team members and help develop the wider team.
Set the standard through your own attitude, energy and approach to hospitality.
Help with rotas, holidays, shift planning and day-to-day staffing.
Give regular feedback and address issues when they arise.
Help build a team culture that is friendly, inclusive and supportive.
Creating a great customer experience
We want people to feel genuinely welcomed when they walk through the door.
You’ll:
Get to know our regular customers and help build a sense of community.
Encourage the team to be warm, attentive and personable.
Pay attention to the small details that make someone's visit memorable.
Make sure the space feels relaxed, welcoming and well looked after.
Help the team understand that great hospitality is about more than simply taking an order and delivering it.
Events, food and wholebeing
Open House is more than our regular daytime service. Throughout the year we host a range of events and activities.
You’ll help support and deliver things such as:
Sunday roasts and special food events.
Pop-up dining and guest chefs.
Live music and cultural events.
Community gatherings.
Wholebeing classes and activities.
Private events and other special occasions.
This might involve helping with set-up and preparation, welcoming guests, coordinating the front of house team during the event and making sure everything is properly wrapped up afterwards.
Some events will take place in the evenings, so you’ll need to be comfortable working a mixture of daytime, weekend and occasional evening shifts.
-
We’re looking for someone who:
Has experience in hospitality, ideally in a supervisory or management position.
Is confident leading a small team.
Naturally enjoys looking after people.
Has high standards without being overly formal or corporate.
Can stay calm, positive and organised when things get busy.
Is proactive and notices what needs doing.
Is comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility.
Communicates clearly and naturally with customers and colleagues.
Is happy being hands-on and working alongside the team.
Takes pride in the space they work in.
Has an interest in food, coffee, culture, events or wholebeing.
Understands that working in a small independent business means everyone pitches in.
Most importantly, we’re looking for the right person rather than someone who simply ticks every box.
You might already be a Front of House Manager, Supervisor or Assistant Manager. Or you might be an experienced hospitality person who is ready to take the next step.
We want someone who is:
Warm — you genuinely enjoy people and make them feel welcome.
Organised — you can keep track of lots of things without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Calm — when things get busy, you stay level-headed and help the team do the same.
Curious — you want to learn, improve things and bring your own ideas.
Hands-on — you’re not afraid to clear tables, make coffees, run food or jump behind the bar when needed.
A leader — you lead by example and bring people with you.
-
A key role in an independent business with a strong sense of purpose.
The opportunity to help shape the future of Open House.
A varied role spanning food, culture, events and wholebeing.
A friendly, creative and supportive working environment.
Staff food and other staff benefits.
Opportunities to get involved in events and other projects across Open House.
A role with real responsibility and autonomy.
-
Full-time, with a mixture of daytime, weekend and occasional evening shifts.
As a hospitality business, we need someone who is comfortable working weekends and supporting occasional evening events.
-
We’re building Open House as a place where people can eat, meet, move, listen, learn and connect.
We want it to be a place that contributes something positive to the community around us — through food, culture, wholebeing and the people who come through our doors.
If that sounds like somewhere you’d enjoy being part of, we’d love to hear from you.
Trainee Chef.

Hours: Full-time

Open House is an independent food, live music and yoga venue in Hathersage, in the Peak District.
Food is a big part of what we do, but we're about more than just serving coffee and brunch. We host Sunday roasts, supper clubs, pop-up food events, music and other gatherings, alongside our regular daytime offering.
We care about good food, good ingredients and creating a place where people want to spend time.
-
We're looking for a Trainee Chef to join our kitchen team and learn the ropes in a busy, creative and community-focused environment.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is passionate about food and wants to develop their skills as a chef. You don't need to have years of professional kitchen experience — we're much more interested in your attitude, curiousity and willingness to learn.
You'll work closely with our Head Chef John Parsons and the wider team, learning how to prepare and cook food to a high standard, while gradually taking on more responsibility.
You might be preparing food for our daily menu one day, helping with a Sunday roast the next, and getting involved in a supper club or pop-up event the following week.
-
Prepare and cook food for our daily offering, weekend specials and events
Learn good kitchen practices, including preparation, organisation and cleaning
Develop your knife skills and basic cooking techniques
Learn how to work efficiently in a busy kitchen
Help with preparation and service during Sunday roasts, supper clubs and pop-up events
Learn how to work with fresh, seasonal and whole-food ingredients
Help with ordering, receiving and storing ingredients
Develop an understanding of portioning, presentation and consistency
Learn and follow food hygiene and safety procedures
Help keep the kitchen clean, organised and running smoothly
Work alongside the Head Chef to develop your skills and confidence
Communicate well with the wider Open House team
Gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop
-
You don't need to tick every box. We're looking for someone who:
Loves food and is genuinely interested in learning how to cook well
Is enthusiastic, reliable and willing to get stuck in
Takes pride in what they do
Is comfortable working as part of a team
Is organised and able to keep things moving when it's busy
Has a good attitude towards cleaning and the less glamorous parts of kitchen life
Cares about the experience we create for our customers
Is curious about ingredients, cooking and where food comes from
Wants to develop into a confident chef over time
Previous kitchen experience is helpful but not essential. This could suit someone starting their career in food, someone who has worked in a kitchen but wants to develop their skills further, or someone with a strong passion for cooking who is looking for their first professional kitchen role.
-
A supportive environment where you can learn and develop
Hands-on training from an experienced kitchen team
The opportunity to work across everyday service and special events
Increasing responsibility as your skills and confidence grow
The chance to be part of a small, independent business with a strong community focus
Opportunities to get involved with food, culture and wholebeing events beyond the everyday kitchen
We're interested in food that is simple, nourishing, seasonal and full of flavour.
We make as much as we can from scratch and care about responsible sourcing and good-quality ingredients. We're also developing our kitchen garden at 10 Trees, which provides an opportunity to connect the kitchen with growing, seasonality and the local community.
You'll have the opportunity to learn about the whole process — from ingredients and preparation through to cooking and serving food that people genuinely enjoy.
-
Full-time, with a mixture of daytime, weekend and occasional evening shifts.
As a hospitality business, we need someone who is comfortable working weekends and supporting occasional evening events.
-
This isn't a role where we expect you to arrive knowing everything.
We're looking for someone with the right attitude and a genuine desire to learn. If you're hardworking, curious and excited by food, we'll help you develop the skills to become a really good chef.
And if you're the kind of person who gets excited about a great Sunday roast, a beautiful bunch of seasonal vegetables or feeding a room full of happy people, you'll probably fit in pretty well here.
